About Kilchoan, Ardnamurchan

Kilchoan is the most westerly village on mainland Britain. Until 1900 the settlement was only accessible by sea and today remains only accessible by a single track road that runs around the coast and mountains of the Ardnamurchan peninsular. The village has a population of 150 and the village and is the focal point of west Ardnamauchan. Kilchoans amenities include a Tourist Information Center, Community Center, shop, church and a pub.

A ferry service between Kilchoan and Tobermory on the Sound of Mull is run by Caledonian MacBrayne, known as CalMac. There are connections with excursions to many other isles and peninsular.

Local points of interest include Mingarry Castle, which was built in the thirteenth century on an outcrop of rock. The Castle was considered statically important and had an eventful history until the 19th century when it fell into ruin.

Kilchoan has stunning beaches, mooring for boats and there is a beautiful view across the sea to the Isle of Mull.
